Frequently Asked Questions
1. What is the "DD Waiver," and do you accept it?
The Developmental Disability (DD) Waiver is a Virginia program that provides funding for various services to help individuals live in the community. Guardian Hands is a licensed provider for individuals who have been authorized for DD Waiver services through the state.
2. How do I know if my loved one is eligible for your services?
Generally, our residents are adults (18+) with a primary diagnosis of a developmental disability who have been cleared for residential services by their local Community Services Board (CSB). If you aren’t sure where you stand, we recommend contacting your local Support Coordinator.
3. What is the difference between your Group Home and Supervised Living services?
- Group Home Services: Provide 24/7 staffing and support within a community-based home. This is ideal for individuals who need consistent, around-the-clock assistance with daily tasks and safety.
- Supervised Living: Offers a higher degree of independence. Support is scheduled based on the individual's specific needs, helping them manage their own home or apartment while still receiving guidance from our team.
4. Can we tour a Guardian Hands home?
Absolutely!
We believe the best way to feel the "Guardian Hands difference" is to see it in person. Once a referral is initiated through your Support Coordinator, we are happy to schedule a private tour of our residential locations.
5. How do I start the referral process?
The first step is to speak with your CSB Support Coordinator. They will send a "Referral Packet" to us for review. Once we receive the packet, our clinical team will evaluate if our environment is the right fit for the individual's unique needs and goals.
